Last posting of the ChainAction Movement gave a general overview. In this posting, we are going to present the vivid scenes from October 21 to 23. Compared to last year, many UN officials and various blockchain projects have participated to enlighten this movement.
2019 ChainAction
ChainAction X Blockchain
The conference which Hanbitco and UN collaborated had 15 teams including Etherium classic, Jelurida, Quarkchain, MakerDao, Publish, DSGN, TOOKTOOK, MXC, XANK, useB, RING, QTUM, MIR and MineBee. On Wednesday, the 23rd, every project introduced their vision on how to achieve 17 UN goals on Sustainable Development.
Blockchain Session
The blockchain session was joined by ChainAction founder Sam Kim as the keynote speaker. He gave a speech about what ChainAction is and what Hanbitco does to the United Nations and the public. The most memorable phrase was:
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete”
After the speech we were able to realize once again, it is time to endure the purpose of the ChainAction and the goals of the UN SDG’s.
Jelurida
Next, Jelurida CEO Kim Cheol-eung participated as a session speaker. Pointing out wasted electricity usage, a problem with Bitcoin POW, and explained a time-tested POS algorithm. He also talked about the pros and cons of comparing NXT with BTC and ETH, and finally found that blockchain is a technology with great potential, but it’s not easy to create a solution for it.
Quarkchain
Korean representativeof Quarkchain Kim Woo-suk gave a speech . He introduced the method of saving encrypted refugees using Quarkchain. Quarkchain uses PoSW agreement which is an algorithm that mixes PoW and PoS. They are conducting a campaign to collect interest from Quarkchain mining and staking to make donations to refugees.
Xank
Xank started their speech with the slogan ‘UN SDG’s for public blockchain’. Kim Ryu-hyun the founder of Xank spoke about the bright future of Xank project, which is to fund start-ups and new companies. He also said, we need to pay attention to social issues such as environmental pollution, discrimination, oppression and consumption.”
MXC
The MXC project is a non-profit German blockchain company that creates a shared economy and becomes the standard for future smart cities. Aaron Wagner, a MXC co-founder, said MXC was the first blockchain company to conduct prototype tests with water purifier through sensors in Berlin. In addition, explaining the MXC Particle Deletion Program was a significant reminder of how serious we should be in the field of environmental issues.
MakerDao
Korea’s CEO of Maker-Dao’s Doo Wan Nam, talked about his role in blockchain and cryptocurrency industry from a financial perspective. Pointing to the centralized problems of the existing financial sector, he said that using blockchain allows us to use crypto financing without the consent of certain institutions. In addition, Maker Dao says the are campaigning for donations using the Maker’s Dao Stable Coin “Dai” for international aid agencies such as UNICEF and Oxfam.
Qtum
Lee Isac the marketer of Qtum was the speaker. He gave a speech which stated that blockchain can reduce trust costs. He compared traditional blockchain and blockchain based transfer, and highlighted the benefits of a Bitcoin POW the annual electricity consumption with other countries. In addition, unlike Bitcoin, Qtum uses POS algorithms. So comparing it to Bitcoin they introduced more about Quantum’s project.
Ring Platform
Director of the ring platform Lee Woo Jun gave a speech. The Ring platform is a blockchain project that aims to bring together all scattered mileages from around the world. In Korea alone, about 11 trillion won of mileage is accumulated, and he stated that we can solve it by using blockchain technology.
DSGN
DSGN had a interesting speech from the beginning. DSGN Founder David Kang talked about the fifth industry, not the fourth one. The fourth industrial revolution is cited as one of the key industries: AI, big data, IoT and blockchain, and the core of it is that people should be center of the industry. The fifth industrial revolution, in the direction that we need to move forward, should be dominated by fourth industrial revolution technologies, but including human-centric sustainable development.
Etherium classic
Lastly, Etherium Classic Korea CEO Lee Soo-chan was joined by us. By showing us animated video, we were able to understand his project easily. He explained the evolution and benefits of Etherium, and said he was hosting blockchain Dapp incubation at Etherium Classic Lab’s Studio. Also, through co-existence with Etherium, it has become a great place to hear the aspirations of Etherium Classic to further expand its ecosystem.
It was a meaningful time to hear more about SDG’s and the direction that the blockchain should move forward.
